physical hazardous.
What is Drug Addiction?: Drug addiction is a complex brain
disease. It is

TYPES OF DRUGS
A WIDE RANGE of drugs are within International Control
(Major International
Drug Treaties). There are many reasons why drugs should
be placed under
control. The most important factor is , if a drug is capable of
producing a
state of dependence and the abuse of such drug warrants
international
control.
There are lots of drugs that are very harmful to the users if
the use is
not controlled or regulated. The most commonly abused
drugs varies from
time to time. The following are the common types of drugs:
1. Cannabis/Marijuana/Igbo: This is cultivated in
temperate and tropical
climatic regions. It is hardy weed and is believed to have
been imported
into Nigeria in 1922. People in Africa have been using
cannabis in various
forms, usually smoking, mixing with tobacco or with
drinks e g. Palm Wine
or gin.

users produces a very strong dependence. It is the drug,
which constitutes
the greatest public health hazards.
Effects of heroin on its users are very devastating and it has
ruined many
promising youths and has sent a lot of uses to mental
homes and untimely
death.
1. Tobacco: You might hear cigarettes referred to as
smokes, cig, or
butts. An active drug in tobacco leaves is known as
Nicotine. Whether
someone smokes, chews, or sniffs tobacco, he /she is
delivering nicotine to
the brain. Besides nicotine, the most dangerous chemicals
in cigrarrete
smoke are tar and carbon monoxide. Tar causes lung
cancer, emphysema, and
bronchial diseases. Carbon monoxide causes heart
problems.
2. Kola-nut & Caffeinated Coffee: These are the prototype
of the
stimulant class of drugs. They alter mood, dispel fatigue
and the feeling
of hunger, stimulants are always used in most cases to
keep one awake,
reach maximum euphoria and excitement. If stimulants
are in constant use,
they may lead to panic or aggression and the urge to
commit dangerous
anti-social act is very high.
3. Other dangerous Drugs: Some children from affluent
homes and
well-to-do parents consume the pop drugs, which include
LSD (Acid)
barbiturates and sedatives (locally called golfers, red
devil, Red birds,
yellow sachet etc.)
