Applications are invited for a Researcher in Infectious Disease Modelling to join the Pathogen Dynamics group at the new Oxford Big Data Institute under the supervision of Professor Christophe Fraser at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics. This is an exciting opportunity to join a large team trialling an intervention to tackle the HIV epidemic in Zambia and South Africa.

You will join a team working on the HPTN 071 (PopART) intervention trial, which started in 2014, and where field activities are due to continue for a further 2 years. In this cluster randomised trial, funded by an international consortium, investigators are testing the hypothesis that HIV transmission can be substantially reduced by a combination of prevention measures delivered to people’s houses, including universal testing and immediate treatment to prevent transmission. The trial is taking place in 21 communities, comprising 1.2 million people, and where adult HIV prevalence ranges from 15% to 30%.

You will have a PhD in infectious disease modelling, applied computing, applied mathematics, statistics, epidemiology or relevant quantitative science, together with relevant experience in modelling or simulation science. You will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in infectious disease modelling, epidemiology or simulation science to work within established research programmes and have the ability to independently plan and manager a research project. In addition you will have a strong publication record and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field.

Grade 8: £39,324 – £46,924 with a discretionary range to £51,260 p.a. An appointment at Grade 7 (£31,076 – £38,183 with a discretionary range to £41,709 p.a.) may also be considered for a less experienced candidate with suitable adjustment of the responsibilities.

This position is fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance and funded by the US National Institutes of Health, the US Office of the Global AIDS coordinator, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
