The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is seeking to appoint an Assistant/ Associate Professor in Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Mathematical Modelling with strong health analytical, organizational and communication skills to join the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology (DIDE) at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSTHM). The post-holder will take the role of the TB Modelling and Analysis Consortium (TB MAC, www.tb-mac.org) Secretariat Epidemiologist/Modeller, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) in LSHTM’s TB Modelling Group (http://tbmodelling.lshtm.ac.uk). The PI is Richard White, with co PIs: Vassall, Dowdy, Cohen, Houben, Eckhoff, Menzies, Gomez, and Kimerling.

TB MAC aims to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of TB control policy and practice at global and country level. To achieve this aim, TB MAC will ensure that there are strong links between TB modellers/economists and country/global TB decision makers, that new high quality TB modelling resources are available to decision makers, and that TB decision makers are better equipped to integrate these resources in their decision making.
This is a critical and influential role. It will give multiple opportunities to work with leaders in the field of TB modelling, on the cutting edge of the science and policy. The post-holder will work closely with Richard White, Rein Houben and the other co-PIs to deliver the activities and products in line with TB MAC’s mandate. The post-holder will be expected to maintain effective collaborations and co-ordinate the work to meet the objectives of this consortium. The role involves a range of scientific and policy work and requires a high degree of personal initiative and communication skills. It will require working with senior modellers, epidemiologists, economists, and decision makers within WHO, GFATM, USAID, KNCV, BMGF, World Bank, KNCV, StopTB, FIND, TB Alliance, Aeras, academic, country NTP, and other organizations. International travel will also be required.
The successful candidate must have a PhD or equivalent experience in a subject with a major quantitative component, experience of analytical skills as related to health, especially infectious diseases, evidence of experience of statistical analysis of health/epidemiological data, evidence of experience of interpreting data from health/epidemiological studies, evidence of ability to systematically review literature and summarise information, evidence of ability to write clearly and produce high quality written technical reports/publications, evidence of ability to present and to verbally communicate effectively with people from a wide range of disciplines, evidence of a publication record with respect to quantitative aspects of health problems, especially infectious diseases. The successful candidate must also be willing to travel to international meetings (around 5 times a year). To be considered for the Associate Professor role, the post-holder must possess the ability to negotiate and influence others’ thinking, the ability to initiate, build or lead a network or establish communication channels, evidence of providing input to longer term planning and strategic discussions, evidence of initiating major research activity or leading investigations and evidence of being an authority in the field or specialism. Evidence of experience of TB epidemiology, experience of infectious disease epidemiology, experience of health economics would be an advantage. This is a full-time post, based in London at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and tenable up to 31 December 2019. The appointment will be made on the School’s Academic Pathway Assistant Professor scale, £44,226 – £50,629 per annum .
